This paper explores the advent of black sororities at Duke University in the mid 1970s including, but not limited to: the reasons for their formation, the challenges the founding members faced in founding them, the reaction of the administration and the larger campus body, and the influence of the organizations on their members.By Duke Today Staff. About 200 people participated Wednesday in a protest sparked by a Duke fraternity party that they said denigrated Asians. The protest sought to hold Kappa Sigma fraternity responsible for its "Asia Prime" party that was held Friday. The invitation to the party included stereotypical representations of Asian people and language.The reputation of DG is that they are classy, supportive of each other, focused on “girl-power,” and heavily involved in campus activities. DGs tend to enjoy a level of respect among other sororities and fraternities. The words you’ll often hear about DGs are “nice,” “social butterflies,” and “good girls.”.There are more than 6,500 undergraduate students at Duke, and over 2,000 of them participate in the campus' Greek life. The Panhellenic Association oversees 10 women sororities on campus.
